For this week's coffee shop exploration, I adventured out to Hatchet Coffee. It's a little farther away from Appalachian's campus, but it is worth the drive! Walking into Hatchet, there was an instant feeling of familiarity. It is cute and quaint, and has the perfect amount of sitting with a stool bar, sofa, table and chairs, and picnic tables on the outside. The actual coffee bar is in the back of the room, and there are also wonderful dry goods to purchase. What makes this coffee unique is that they roast their own beans. The actual roaster rests in another room, hidden from public eyes. I selected my favorite coffee, a dark roast. I drink my coffee straight black, no cream or sugar. I believe you can taste the beans better that way and really understand the different flavors of various types of beans. For the purpose of looks, I selected a simple latte. Both of these coffees were very pleasing. The dark roast was especially delightful, and I will definitely be returning for more. Hatchet sell beans by the bags, so if you're the type that appreciates a good solid cup of joe, the coffee bags from them are definitely for you and your home. This coffee shop is the perfect place to study if you want to get off campus for a bit and change your scenery. Another cool fact about them is that they share a building with Center 45 Climbing and Fitness. When you visit Hatchet, you can grab a cup a coffee and then hit the rock wall for some intense climbing. What a perfect combination!
Till next time,
