Higher Grounds Coffee Shoppe is located in the New Market shopping center and beside the Regal Cinemas Boone 7 and Big Lots. It is a little ways from campus, but definitely worth the drive. I was able to jump on one of the city buses (The Orange Route) to get there from campus.
The first thing that welcomes you is a beautiful tree standing to the left of the entrance, adding a perfect shaded area for sipping coffee and reading a good book. As I walked in I noticed different containers of various flavors of beans! (YES BEANS) They offer almost EVERY flavor you can imagine. (!!!COFFEE HEAVEN!!!)
As their website stated this coffee shop allows you to,

From exotic blends to comforting favorites, we make it possible to enjoy quality coffee in your home. We also have commercial coffee grinders in the shoppe. Scoop and brew to your heart’s content."
They don't roast their own beans but they nitpick only the best beans available in the area. You can also custom order a flavor and if they don't have the flavor you want and they will order it and receive it in the shop within 24 hours. They also offer a different flavor of the day each day! Today I tried a medium roast called Death by Chocolate. It was divine. I usually always stick to a dark roast, but I couldn't pass up an offer up like this. It didn't need added cream or sugar, it had a hint of chocolate tasting refreshing and smooth by itself.
Also featuring on their menu is Italian sodas, smoothies, Blue Bell Creamery Ice Cream, chocolate covered espresso beans (personal favorite, the dark chocolate covered bean), espresso creations, chai lattes, drip coffee, frappes, and so much more!
Higher Grounds Coffee Shoppe has been awarded "The of the best Coffee Shop in Watauga County" in the years 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2018. This coffee shop is definitely one for the books if your into different flavors of coffee! They also offer in-store refills with the cup sizes as follows; 12oz 50¢, 16oz 75¢, and 20oz $1.00. So go check it out!
